Inside the grow room

About

I grow inside.

I've been growing indoors since 2015. I learned in a Detroit basement, built my first grow room behind a hidden door in a $6,000 house, and spent years building grow systems and teaching other people around the country. After a car accident in 2020 took me off the road, I turned to filming and teaching.

Every lesson in this course is filmed in my own tent, with the equipment I actually use. I don't teach anything I haven't done.

The story

From a basement in Detroit to your living room

In 2015 I was out of work in Toledo, Ohio, about to accept a twenty-dollar-an-hour temp job. After rent, transportation, and utilities, I'd have had about two hundred dollars left from each paycheck. That weekend I visited a childhood friend in Detroit. He took me into his basement and showed me cannabis plants, the first I had ever seen. By Saturday morning I had turned down the job and decided to stay.

For about a year I watered his plants in exchange for a place to sleep, and I studied everything: nutrients, lighting, humidity, and the techniques other growers shared in the aisles of the grow store. When I had saved enough, I bought a rundown Detroit house for $6,000 and built my first grow room behind a false wall in the basement. Pull the latch and the wall opened. My first solo harvest was eight plants and three pounds, and the people who tried it told me it was among the best they had ever had.

Over the next few years I expanded to three grow houses, learned soil, hydroponic, and aeroponic cultivation, and designed my own recirculating deep water culture system. Word spread through the dispensaries, and people began asking me to build grow rooms for them and teach them to run it. I traveled from Baltimore to Indiana, Ohio, Atlanta, and Oakland doing exactly that.

In 2020 I moved to Oakland. On December 4 of that year I was hit by a car crossing the street. Fifteen days in the hospital, weeks before I could walk, and the end of the traveling, hands-on work I had built a business on. As I recovered, I found another way to share what I knew: I filmed grows from seed to harvest and taught Saturday master classes. The first class had six students, the second ten, the third thirteen. Some of them still call for advice.

The name carries two meanings. In Detroit I grew plants inside a basement. In California I spent a long time inside, healing and growing in a different way. Both belong in it.

Today the Indoor Grow Course brings all of that into a step-by-step video series, built around the methods I use and the mistakes I have already made so you don't have to. If you have a question before you buy, email me. I read every message.

Since 2015

Soil, hydroponics, aeroponics, and a home-built recirculating deep water culture system. The course teaches the method that works best for a first grow: soil in a tent.

Built for other people

Grow rooms designed, built, and handed over with the training to run them, in five states. The same walkthrough is now on video.

Taught in person

Three master-class cohorts, twenty-nine students, taught step by step on Saturdays. The series is that class, at your own pace.
